Sacred Space in the Workplace

I've made mention in an earlier post about just how important it is to create a sacred space within your home. Whether it is an elaborate altar or a corner of the room that is yours to fill with crystals, pictures and objects that are meaningful to you. I have a few such spaces in my house. I have my altar space, which is now graced by a beautiful giant Ganesha wall hanging that a friend gifted to me after his trip to India. The night stand next to my bed has five giant crystals on it, sometimes I put prayers under the crystals or use the cluster to activate other crystals. I like to have them close, especially my citrine. Anytime I have trouble sleeping it puts me right out and it is great for energy clearings and balancing chakras. I keep my vision boards inside of my armoire, so I see them every morning and night when I get dressed.  I make a special point to give gratitude for what has already manifested and to take a moment to look at what I'm trying to manifest now - specifically that three million dollar check written from my company to me!

I am fortunate enough to now work out of my home office, but most of us spend more time at work than we do at home and we need to create sacred space there as well. Perhaps not so much as to have a place to meditate or lay down our yoga mat, but to remind us of our connection to our practice, to spirit and our higher purpose. It may also be necessary as protection against the toxic energies and negative thought patterns from co-workers that exist in many work environments. In my last office I was working with conscious people and a lot of fellow yogis, so I considered myself fortunate. I placed two small Ganesha's(remover of obstacles) in my office- on my desk and near the doorway. If you are lucky enough to have space for a large plant or small water feature it always brings serenity and balance to any environment.  If you don't have space to add any physical objects, you will have to use your imagination. What I have done in the past was to create  an energetic wall of white light at my doorway. Just imagine a wall of white light where only good intentions and positive energy can pass through. I can you tell the minute I did that visualization the few people that I found slightly annoying would stop just short of my doorway to ask a question instead of walking in my office. Remember imagination leads to experience- it works!
Its also a good idea from time to time to clear the energy in your space. If you can get away with smudging with some sage or lighting incense without people looking at you like you're crazy- great, but some people may not like that in a shared space. I recommend a spray version of sage called Sacred that you can use for space clearing from  Holistic Body Therapy.
If you come in contact with a lot of people in your workday you may try doing a clearing on yourself! Lay down in savasana and bring your attention to your chakra centers. Mentally bring attention to each chakra and silently repeat or listen to the Maha Mritjunjaya, feel it resonate as it brings healing and freedom from fear. If you are interested in learning this and other mantras check out the CD Calling the Divine at www.parayoga.com
This is very powerful and I use it anytime that I'm in production, traveling or emotionally feeling worn down.
Creating sacred space can be done anywhere, its all about intention!
